Trento Festival of Economics, the new edition is ready to begin
The 19th edition of the Trento Festival of Economics is about to start: “QUO VADIS? The dilemmas of our time” will take place from May 23rd to 26th
Scheduled from May 23rd to 26, 2024, the 19th edition of the Trento Festival of Economics is about to open in the winning formula that sees for the third consecutive year the Gruppo 24 ORE together with Trentino Marketing as organizers on behalf of the Autonomous Province of Trento and with the contribution of the Municipality of Trento and the University of Trento.
Five Nobel Laureates will be present at the 2024 Trento Festival of Economics edition, titled “QUO VADIS? The Dilemmas of Our Time”: Returning to Trento is Edmund Phelps, Nobel Laureate in Economics 2006 for his analysis of the intertemporal relations of macroeconomic policy. He is considered the progenitor of the New Keynesians, and will narrate his journey through the ideas and economic theories of the past 60 years from Teatro Sociale on Thursday, May 23rd at 2:30 PM. James Heckman, Nobel Laureate in Economics 2000 for his contributions to “the development of theory and methods for analyzing selective samples”, will speak for the first time from the Trento Festival stage on Saturday, May 25th, on the topic “How the Welfare State Helps Overcome Inequalities” at Teatro Sociale at 9:30 AM; another new distinguished guest will be Michael Spence, Professor Emeritus of Management and Former Dean of the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University and Nobel Laureate in Economics 2001, who will address the topic “Living with Global Permacrises” on Sunday, May 26th at 2:45 PM at Teatro Sociale.
Also, two Nobel Peace Laureates will participate: Muhammad Yunus, who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 for his efforts to create economic and social development from the ground up, will talk about “Man at the Crossroads Between Self-destruction and a Future of Achievements” on Sunday, May 26th at 9:30 AM; while Tawakkol Karman, Nobel Peace Laureate in 2011 for her non-violent struggle for democracy and her defense of women’s rights in Yemen, founder of the Tawakkol Karman International Foundation, will engage in a dialogue with Father Enzo Fortunato, spokesperson for the Papal Basilica of St. Peter, titled “Children are Born to be Happy”, scheduled for Thursday, May 23rd at 2:00 PM.
Representatives of the Italian government will also be present: The Prime Minister will engage in dialogue with Sky TG24 and Radio 24 journalist Maria Latella at 2:30 PM on Friday, May 24th at Teatro Sociale in Trento. Also present will be the Secretary of the Democratic Party on Friday, May 24th at 5:15 PM, at Teatro Sociale in Trento, interviewed by Ferruccio De Bortoli on the topic “My Answers to the Dilemmas of Our Time”.
Confirmed presence in Trento of 22 Ministers and the European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs, who will speak on the topic “Next Generation EU: What Prospects After 2026” on Saturday, May 25th at 6:15 PM at Palazzo della Provincia - Sala Depero. Among the participants at the Trento Festival, the President of the Foundation for Global Cooperation will speak on Friday, May 24th at Teatro Sociale at 9:30 AM in the panel “Quo Vadis Europa” and on Saturday, May 25th at 9:45 AM on the topic “The World Upside Down” The President of the Foreign and Community Affairs Committee of the Chamber of Deputies will speak on Saturday, May 25th at 2:00 PM at Palazzo della Provincia - Sala Depero in the panel “2024, the USA Puzzle” and on Sunday, May 26th at noon at Teatro Sociale on the topic “Time is Out of Joint”
The opening speech of the Festival’s Inaugural Ceremony, on Thursday, May 23rd at 6:00 PM, will be given by Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, President Emeritus of the Pontifical Council for Culture, in conversation with Lavinia Biagiotti Cigna, President and CEO of the Biagiotti Group, while the Festival’s closing on Sunday, May 26th will be entrusted to the President of Confindustria Emanuele Orsini, interviewed by the Director of Il Sole 24 Ore, Fabio Tamburini. Among the many events scheduled for the XIX edition of the Trento Festival of Economics, not to be missed is the speech by Cardinal Matteo Maria Zuppi in dialogue with Marco Magnani, University of Luiss Guido Carli, on the topic “A World in Pieces, Will It Find the Compass Again?” on Saturday, May 25th.
