Start of the eight-stage tour to showcase Lombardy’s manufacturing excellence and services
“Smartland. Lombardy of the future” kicks off on Wednesday 29 January. The initiative is organized by Regione Lombardia, Confindustria Lombardia, Fondazione Fiera Milano and Il Sole 24 Ore in association with Ubi Banca and is part of the events organized to celebrate the 50 years from the birth of the Region in 1970.
For the first time ever, all the regional capitals and their territories take part in an eight-stage roadshow: a true journey into Lombardy's excellence that aims to take stock of best practices and innovative paths of success of each territory, to create and share a virtuous mapping that can drive change in the coming future of the Region.
The eight stages of the Smartland tour will cast the spotlight on current issues, to discover and learn from the stories of 'local excellence' how to compete on global markets: research and innovation, digital transformation, new knowledge, sustainable and replicable models of economy, connections between local supply chains, export and internationalization, simplification, the jobs of tomorrow, calls for tenders.
The tour kicks off in Varese and the Alto Milanese, at the LIUC University in Castellanza, on Wednesday 29 January: Varese is definitely one of the world's largest aerospace districts, but it also boasts other specializations: from chemistry to rubber-plastics; from mechanics to machinery; from food to footwear. The stage starts in a week’s time.
The following Smartland events will touch the territories of Mantua (25 February), Brescia (18 March), Lecco-Como-Sondrio (22 April), Cremona (13 May), Bergamo (8 July), Pavia (16 September), to finish off with Milan/Monza/Lodi on 26 October.
