"Road to Trento": navigating global challenges and creative synergies, leading up to the 20th edition of the Trento Festival of Economics
One of the major events of 2025 is the 20th edition of the Trento Festival of Economics, set for 22-25 May 2025, centered around the theme "Risks and fatal choices. Europe at the crossroads”. A title reflecting the sweeping changes that the U.S. election results will bring to the international arena, starting with the global geopolitical and macroeconomic balances. Numerous risks and choices await us, impacting Europe. These crucial issues will be tackled at the Trento Festival of Economics, organized for the fourth consecutive year by 24 ORE Group and Trentino Marketing on behalf of the Autonomous Province of Trento, in collaboration with the Municipality and University of Trento. The Festival will feature contributions from the brightest minds in economics, academia, and politics, both nationally and internationally, in a special edition celebrating the event's 20th anniversary next May. In anticipation of the major event, 24 ORE Group is organizing for the third year "Road to Trento - the international events of the Festival of Economics”, leading up to the Festival. Created by Il Sole 24 Ore in collaboration with Italy's diplomatic offices worldwide, this initiative aims to bring the Trento Festival of Economics to the international stage by previewing its topics, expanding its insights, while creating networking opportunities between Italian businesses, the research community, and institutional representatives.
After Lugano, San Francisco, Abu Dhabi, and Johannesburg in 2023, and New Delhi, London, and Berlin in 2024, Road to Trento in 2025 will include two international stages that will foster dialogue on topical issues.
The first will take place on 30 January 2025, in the United States, in New York, America's pivotal hub where global decisions are made, with the event "Global Digital Compact: for a human governance of artificial intelligence”. The choice of New York as the first stage is no coincidence: it is where the Pact for the Future was born, under the auspices of the United Nations. In September 2024, world leaders adopted the Pact, marking the culmination of a process designed to adapt international cooperation to today’s realities and tomorrow's challenges. The Pact includes the Declaration on Future Generations and the Global Digital Compact. The latter is one of the most tangible and innovative achievements of the Pact for the Future, and its implementation is one of the most promising topics of discussion at the UN. It represents the first-ever attempt to establish a global framework for the governance of artificial intelligence. Representatives from diplomacy, UN bodies, the private sector, and academia will discuss these issues in New York, aiming to identify and fund new avenues for development and partnerships.
The second stage of "Road to Trento - the international events of the Festival of Economics”, scheduled for 13 February 2025, will instead take place at the headquarters of the Italian Embassy in Paris as part of the initiatives for the IX Day of Italian Design in the World. A meeting that will be held under the theme of design. Italy, a European leader in the industry, not only generates the highest turnover in Europe but is also globally recognized for its distinctive style that melds tradition, innovation, and craftsmanship. France, ranked third in design turnover and Italy's second-largest trading partner, is the natural counterpart for building synergies and creating new value opportunities. "Designing beauty, creating value" is the title that intertwines and develops, among other topics, the core theme of the new edition of Italian Design Day, scheduled for 12 February. For 2025, the theme addresses inequalities as fractures in society, with design acting as a bridge to foster connection, exchange, and balance. Design as a tool for a better life, driving innovation, sustainability, and economic opportunities.
