The initiatives to celebrate 40 years of Domenica
Il Sole 24 Ore Domenica, the cultural supplement that pioneered high standards among Italian newspaper cultural pages, marked its 40th anniversary in 2023, having been first published on 4 December 1983.
To celebrate this milestone, we organized a series of initiatives: a digital installation in the “Pillole di cultura” exhibit at Milano Centrale, featuring 18 high-definition monitors displaying a video animation of 40 questions on culture, accompanied by striking illustrations, emphasizing the importance of asking the right questions as a key to understanding the future. The questions were also re-proposed in the “Agenda della Domenica” and incorporated into the layouts of a major event held at Castello Sforzesco on Tuesday, 12 December. Organized in collaboration with the City of Milan, the event was attended by top management of 24 ORE Group, Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano, Undersecretary of State for Culture Vittorio Sgarbi, and Milan City Councillor for Culture Tommaso Sacchi. To enhance the celebratory event, all attendees had the opportunity to admire the artwork “Grande sfera di giornali” by artist Michelangelo Pistoletto, created specifically for the 40th anniversary of Domenica, using pressed paper from the supplement itself. The same artwork is now displayed at the new headquarters of Il Sole 24 Ore in the Bicocca district, on loan for one year following the celebration.
