Giampaolo Galli appointed new director

Milan, 20 March 2009 – At its meeting today, the Board of Directors co-opted Giampaolo Galli as non-executive director of the Company.

His appointment to the Board of Directors follows the resignation of Dott. Maurizio Beretta as director of the Company.

The appointment, made with a view to continuity, will not produce any significant change in the current top management line-up.

The Board thus consists of 15 directors, of whom 13 non-executive, including Giampaolo Galli.

Giampaolo Galli was born in Milan on March 13, 1951, and lives in Rome. He is Director-General of Confederazione Generale dell'Industria Italiana – Confindustria.

From 1980 to 1992, he worked in the areas of monetary market, econometric research and economic forecasts in the Study Department of the Bank of Italy.

From 1992 to 1995, as Head of the International Directorate of the Study Department, he was involved in international monetary relations within the EMS and with other principal areas, representing the Bank of Italy in a number of international organizations, such as: the EU Monetary Committee; the OECD Economic Policy Committee; the G10 Committee of Alternates.
From March 1995 to February 2003, he was Chief Economist of Confindustria.

From March 2003 to January 2009, he was Director-General of ANIA, the National Association of Insurance Companies.
From 1995 to 2003, he was: member of the National Institute of Economic Research of London; European monetary policy advisor to the Monetary and Financial Affairs Commission of the European Parliament; member of the EMU Monitor of Frankfurt (with P. Artus, E. Bomhoff, M. Neuman and J. Von Hagen); member of the group of economic advisors to the President of the European Commission.

He was lecturer in econometrics, monetary policy and economic policy at the Bocconi University of Milan, and at La Sapienza and Luiss - Guido Bocconi University of Milan, and at La Sapienza and Luiss - Guido Carli Universities of Rome.

He has written numerous articles for newspapers and scientific journals.
He is also:

  • lecturer in insurance economics and finance at the Luiss - Guido Carli University of Rome;
  • councillor of CNEL, the National Council for Economics and Labour.
